Form Fill Seal (FFS) machines are packaging machines that form, fill and seal a package on the same machine. The main types are vertical form fill seal (VFFS) and horizontal form fill seal (HFFS) machines - a term often used in the market place to cover horizontal versions of flow-wrappers, sachet machines, blister pack machines, four side seal machines and thermoform fill and seal machines. Either machine will require packaging materials (typically referred to as roll stock) which are fed off a roll, shaped, and sealed. The bags/packs are then filled, sealed and separated before being packaged and shipped to stores everywhere.

Layfield can offer a wide variety of mono-layer or co-extruded structures for FFS applications. Industrial applications appreciate Layfield's resin blending expertise for delivering the most economical FFS materials for their demanding applications. In addition to developing performance materials, Layfield can provide differential slip products, which are ideal for improved pallet stack stability. Single-wound and V-fold film configurations are available to fit whatever automatic bagging or filling equipment your operation demands.

For consumer products, our printing and graphic capabilities are geared toward delivering maximum shelf appeal. We can offer award winning 8-color flexographic printing, which will help to maximize your products shelf appeal.

Technological improvements to flexible form, fill and seal packaging machines are yielding exceptional line speeds, productivity rates and bag features. The continued evolution of FFS equipment has impacted plastic film properties (e.g. coefficient of friction (COF), sealing temperature range, hot tack) required for optimal performance. We are continually working with FFS equipment suppliers: Hammer, Premier Tech, among others to ensure that our films have optimized to perform on these machines.
